Chose Guided Fjord Tours because the boat was smaller, and it paid off — we could actually move around and get to the rail whenever we wanted. The driver pointed out an eagle nesting near Nordhordland Bridge, and the onboard kiosk had a decent aquavit for the ride back. Felt more like a private outing than a tour bus on water.

We compared all three operators before booking and went with Fjordcharter for the live guide, and I'm glad we did. Our guide switched between English and a bit of German for our group without missing a beat, handed out a printed brochure so we didn't have to keep our phones out, and somehow made a three-and-a-half-hour boat ride feel short. The saloon windows were huge, so even the non-window seats had a proper view.

Took my parents on the Guided Fjord Tours trip since it runs year-round and we were visiting in February. The captain rerouted slightly around some ice near the innermost fjord, explained exactly why over the speakers, and it honestly added to the adventure rather than taking away from it. Hot chocolate from the kiosk kept everyone happy on deck.
